QUANTUM 724 is a complete medium stimulating the growth of peripheral blood lymphocytes. It contains the mitogen phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) as the growth determining factor. Cell from different tissues originate from varying physiological backgrounds. Furthermore each cell type displays specific metabolic pathways which result in individual demands on nutrient supply or supplementation with growth factors. Lymphocytes as part of the cellular fraction of the blood belong to the adaptive immune system. Usually they are isolated from whole blood by density gradient centrifugation. Adult lymphocytes lack the ability to proliferate. Thus, the culture medium has to contain a mitogen to induce cell division.
QUANTUM 724 is the optimal choice for cultivation of lymphocytes from peripheral blood. Among other things the complete medium consists of a modified RPMI 1640 and a lymphocyte pre-tested FBS. The mitogenic activity of the medium is especially adjusted for lymphocyte proliferation. Quantum 724 stimulates the growth of a high percentage of isolated lymphocytes to provide sufficient cell numbers for further investigations.
