Long term storage of working cell lines in liquid nitrogen plays an important role in cell culture. Extra- and intracellular ice crystal formation, dehydration and solution effects could cause damage to cells and affect their stability and vitality after thawing.
Thus, the process of cell preservation needs sensitive and cryoprotective reagents as well as careful handling. To treat the cell lines the best way, PAA has developed a family of cryopreservation solutions that include new crystal suppressing agents.
Based on successfully developed hypothermic solutions for cold storage of organs, CryoMaxx I and CryoMaxx II are ideal serum free cryopreservation media with different concentrations of DMSO for highest cell viability after thawing. Furthermore, CryoMaxx SF based on methyl-cellulose, is also available for serum free applications.
For classical cryopreservation of cells, the serum containing medium CryoMaxx S can also be supplied.
Cells, tissues and organs can be effectively preserved under cold storage with PAA's preservation medium CoolStar. It consists of different disaccharides and buffers and is based on the well-known UW-, Celsior- and HTK- solutions. Our new formulation reduces oxidative damage and degradation by proteases and nucleases more efficiently. Tissues and organs are successfully prepared for transplantation experiments, especially when CoolStar is used in combination with the flush solution CoolStar Rinse.
