Phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) is a lectin extracted from red kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). It has a number of physiological effects and is used in medical research. It induces mitosis and effects the transport of proteins across the cell membrane. PHA is used for the stimulation of cell proliferation in lymphocyte cultures. In high doses PHA is a toxin. Since PHA is subjected to batch variations PAA offers a sterile, ready to use solution with a defined concentration.
