General
Classical basal media are not optimized for the cultivation of neurons. Some components such as asparagine and aspartic acid can inhibit growth of neuronal cells. Withdrawal of inhibitory factors led to the development of Neuronal Base Medium with optimal growth properties for embryonic neurons.
PAA’s Neuronal Base Medium is formulated to meet the special requirements of embryonic neurons and neuronal stem cells. In combination with several NeuroMixes (B27 NeuroMix, Neuronal Stem Cell Supplement) this medium allows growth of neuronal cells without the need of astrocyte feeder cells.
Application
Neuronal Base Medium is an optimized medium for embryonic neurons. The specific components reduce overgrowth of glial cells. Only under glia-free conditions reliable results can be provided.
Neuronal Stem Cells
For serum free cell culture of neuronal stem cells defined culture conditions are necessary. Neuronal Base Medium contains an optimized and balanced formulation of trace elements, salts, amino acids, fatty acids and vitamins. In combination with the NeuroMixes G5 or N2 embryonic stem cells can be differentiated into neuronal cells. Furthermore using B27 NeuroMix neuronal stem cells can be differentiated into neuronal cells and astrocytes. By use of Neuronal Stem Cell Supplement adult neuronal stem cells can proliferate without differentiation.
Composition
The basal medium contains vitamins, trace elements and amino acids which are optimized for growth of neuronal cell lines.
