Macrophages and monocytes play a major role during immunological reactions in organisms. They modulate and enhance the immunological response during defence of foreign organisms such as bacteria or viruses. They are also involved during inflammation processes, in the resorption of cells and tissues and during reparation of tissue and skin. Macrophages and monocytes are an important ex vivo model system for immunological processes.
In the past media containing serum were used for the cultivation of these cells; however the use of serum is risk-bearing and diminishes the reproducibility.
PAA has developed a macrophage medium, which is fully defined and absolutely safe in use.
