Karyotyping of lymphocytes, amnion and chorionic villi cells is an important tool in cytogenetics to detect chromosomal aberrations. For chromosomal analysis lymphocytes of the peripheral blood and cells of the amnion fluid are cultivated in specific media in order to prepare intact chromosomes. Ham´s F-10 is one of the most widely used culture media in cytogenetics. For optimal and reproducible growth of amnion and chorionic villi cells it is supplemented with Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS) as it is an essential source of specific growth factors. After supplementation with phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) Ham´s F-10 Ready Mix is a complete medium for selective growth of lymphocytes of the peripheral blood.
