General
Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS) contains the highest concentration of growth factors compared to other sera. For in vitro cultivation of different stem cells FBS is the optimal supplement in nutrient media. In order to minimize the contamination risk from animal derived products, PAA's FBS Pharma Grade is manufactured and tested according to current relevant directives, guidelines and regulations of Ph. Eur. (EP), EMEA and USDA.
The new Standard
For proliferation and differentiation of embryonic and adult stem cells high concentrations of growth factors and hormones are needed. Only high quality FBS which is tested with different embryonic and adult stem cells reduces the effect of batch to batch variations. Therefore FBS Pharma Grade is screened extensively for ten different viruses (Parainfluenza Type 3 (PI-3), Bovine Virus Diarrhoea Virus (BVD-V), Bovine Herpes Virus Type 1 (BHV-1), Blue Tongue Virus (BTV), Bovine Adenovirus (BAV), Bovine Reovirus (BRV), Bovine Parvovirus (BPV), Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV), Rabies Virus, BVD-1 AB, BVD-2 AB, Rabies AB, BVD AB Inhibitory, BVD AB Interferences).
In order to reduce potential virus contamination FBS Pharma Grade can be treated by an effective single box gamma irradiation (optional) with 35 kGy.
Product safety will be increased by only using FBS sourced from BSE free countries such as Australia.
