Cryopreservation is a procedure to stabilize cells at cryogenic temperatures for long term storage. Cells contain fragile membranes and organelles which can be destroyed by ice formation during the freezing procedure. The use of cryoprotective additives or chemicals protects the cells during the freezing process by minimizing the damage associated with ice crystal formation.
CryoMaxx I is a serum free cryoprotective medium developed especially for DMSO sensitive cells. The low DMSO concentration (5%) and different new cell stabilizers provide best viability after thawing.
CryoMaxx II is a serum free cryoprotective medium also based on organ preservation media with a higher DMSO concentration (10%). CryoMaxx I and II are used for cell lines adversely affected by prolonged contact with DMSO. CryoMaxx I and II are developed for serum free cell banking and therefore qualified for the use in the biopharmaceutical industry.
CryoMaxx SF is a serum free cryoprotective medium containing 10% DMSO and methylcellulose. Methylcellulose is the main component for cell stabilisation. CryoMaxx SF can also be used in preparation of cell banking.
CryoMaxx S is a classical serum containing cryoprotective medium that contains 10% DMSO. The FBS used is extensively tested to protect cells during cell preservation.
The cryopreservation media contain DMSO (5 – 10 %) as active substance. DMSO avoids destructive ice formation during freezing procedure. For cell stabilization further components must be added. CryoMaxx I (with 5% DMSO) and CryoMaxx II (with 10% DMSO) consist of a basal medium with different saccharides, reducing agents and colloids. CryoMaxx SF is based on DMEM/Ham's F-12 supplemented with methylcellulose and 10 % DMSO. CryoMaxx S is a classical serum containing cryopreservation medium based on DMEM/Ham's F-12 with 20 % FBS and 10 % DMSO.
