Collagen based media are used for the cultivation of human or murine hematopoietic progenitor cells. Collagen, a gelling agent, increases the viscosity of the medium allowing optimal colony formation of the different progenitor cells for simplified separation and identification. CollagenStem Medium (containing CollagenStem Solution) is used for the cultivation of cells which have to be dehydrated and fixed for subsequent cytochemical or immuno-cytochemical staining.

CollagenStem Medium consists of a modified IMDM medium containing BSA, 2-Mercaptoethanol and L-glutamine. Before use the CollagenStem Solution has to be added to the medium.
